[DVD REVIEW]Pulp Fiction
This masterpiece by renowed Director Quentin Tarantino was made way back in 1994 when I was still in dippers & 19 years later I finally got an opportunity to watch the film that has influenced pop culture with its witty dialogue & intertwined plot that will fly over you head if you don’t pay attention.
The plot is seemingly about nothing , it connects the intersecting storylines of 2 LA mob hit men, a mob boss & his wife, a washed up boxer & 2 small time criminals plus a mysterious briefcase (which the audience never knows the contents of). Considerable screen time is devoted to conversations and monologues that reveal the characters’ senses of humor and perspectives on life.
The film’s screenplay was co-written by the director Quentin Tarantino & starred an ensemble cast featuring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson & Uma Thurman who all received Academy Award nominations for their roles plus Bruce Willis, Ving Rhames, Harvey Keitel and of course a cameo from Tarantino himself, while the film itself received 7 Oscar nominations winning Best Original Screenplay.
The movie was critically acclaimed for its “Black Humour” & outstanding monologues thrust in between violence, the camera angels that give you an almost realistic feel & Samuel. L Jackson’s now immortal scene where he recites the bible verse Ezekiel 25: 17 before shooting his victim.
The DVD is available online on request from Amazon.com & various other sites
