Rockville on Mzansi Magic
Mzansi Magic’s much-anticipated new drama series, Rockville, hit television screens on Wednesday, 19 June at 19:00. Produced by and starring power couple Shona and Connie Ferguson, this ten-part series lifts the lid on the dark side of Mzansi – the drama, sacrifices and subterfuge that it takes to get to the top in modern-day South Africa.
The new production, a brainchild of the couple’s company Ferguson Films, is a visual of two feuding families who come from different backgrounds & includes a star-studded line-up of characters with the likes of Trevor Gumbi, Minnie Dlamini, Luthuli Dlamini, Gail Nkoane, Boity Thulo, Bonnie Henna and of course Shona & Connie Ferguson.
Rockville which had the working title of Black Diamonds is very similar to the Mzansi Magic telenovelas isiBaya and iNkaba & seeing how those two shows were a raging success it’s no wonder the Fergusons are also trying their luck in this relatively new television market.
The plot is relatively simple: one family lives in Soweto (where of course Rockville is found) & the other the other in a leafy suburb, they are bound by a common thread & this leads to an all-out Mzansi-style home-brewed family feud.
Rockville airs every Wednesdays at 19:00 on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161)
